My earliest memory of dog training is one that has stayed with me my entire life. I was four years old, sitting in our back yard, utterly captivated by a farmer training our new dog. With just a few quiet words the dog learned three basic commands (sit, stay, come), and within approx. 45 minutes was acting out these commands consistently with no hesitation. It was more than training—it was a partnership, built on trust, communication, and respect. That moment sparked something in me, something that would grow into a lifelong passion.

Dogs have always been a part of my life, not just as companions but as teachers. As a child, our home was full of wagging tails and eager eyes—each dog with its own unique personality and lessons to share. Pete, our loyal black Labrador, was the first to show me the depth of a dog’s devotion. Patch, our feisty Jack Russell, proved that determination could come in the smallest package. Basil, the Spitz, had an independent streak that taught me patience. Faye, our Border Collie, showed me the power of intelligence and drive. Alf, the tiny but mighty Chihuahua, reminded me that courage knows no size. And Paddy, the gentle Golden Lab/Retriever cross, embodied kindness and warmth.

As I grew, so did my understanding of dogs. I learned to listen—to their body language, their needs, their joys, and their fears. I worked with dogs through Canine Good Citizen, Obedience, and Agility training, fascinated by how training deepened our bond and allowed us to work as a team.

When I moved out of home, I became the proud kaitiaki of two Rottweiler-cross puppies, Elmo and Satchmo. They were my first dogs as an adult, and they challenged and inspired me in ways I hadn't expected. Training them reinforced what I had learned as a child—consistency, kindness, and understanding were the keys to a well-balanced dog.

Later, when we bought our first home, Indie, a black and white Border Collie, became part of our family. With Indie, I delved even deeper into training, refining my skills and strengthening my commitment to ethical, effective methods that respected each dog’s individuality.

Now, I share my life with three incredible Border Collies: Lincoln, a striking blue merle; Luna, a fiery red; and Lego, a classic black and white. They continue to challenge me, teach me, and inspire me every day.

My journey with dogs has been lifelong, shaped by the lessons they have given me at every stage. From that first moment watching a farmer and his dog, to working with dogs across obedience, agility, and behavioral training, I have come to believe that dog training is not just about commands—it’s about connection. It’s about understanding a dog’s needs, communicating in a way they understand, and fostering trust that lasts a lifetime.

Now, as a professional trainer, my goal is simple: to help dogs and their kaitiaki build relationships based on respect, trust, and joy. Every dog deserves to be understood, and every guardian deserves the knowledge and support to help their dog thrive. I’m here to make that happen.
